In the course of working trip of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev to the United States, an agreement was signed between Cisco International Limited and “Zerde”National Info Communication Holding JSC. Under this agreement, Cisco agreed to support the implementation of “Digital Kazakhstan” state program aimed  at improvement of life quality of the population and Kazakhstan's economy competitiveness by means of progressive digital ecosystem development.

The parties mutually agreed to focus their activities on acceleration of digital transformations in several areas and identified key initiatives for transition to the digital technologies and quickly achievable results in each of these areas. E-Government, “smart" cities, mining and education became the focus of attention of both parties.

·         E-Government. In order to facilitate access to public services, Cisco will install three e-Government stands in Astana, where citizens will be able to receive government services online, as well as instantly print the necessary documentation. After the successful implementation of the three pilot stands, the project is planned to be replicated in all regions of Kazakhstan.

In addition to that 4 interactive video systems will be developed, which will be used by citizens for distance learning and virtual communication with civil servants without having to go to Astana. These systems will play a key role in improving the services in rural areas where Internet coverage can be insufficient and there are no Public Service Centers.

·         “Smart Cities”. Starting to implement the “smart” city initiatives Akimat (mayor administration) of Astana plans to significantly improve the transport conditions in the city and reduce traffic jams. The system designed for the region's severe weather conditions will provide support for traffic monitoring, smart lighting, parking systems, road information panels and environmental monitoring devices, contributing in reduction of transport load and reduce harmful emissions around the capital by means of Wi-Fi Network.

·         Upgrade skills for the digital economy. One of the main objectives of “Creative Society” direction of “Digital Kazakhstan” is development of technical personnel and skilled specialists to work in digital environment. Cisco plans to increase the number of networking academies in Kazakhstan in order to solve this problem. The Cisco Networking Academy program is a non-profit educational program that offers educational materials on IT topics to educational institutions. With the support of Kazakhstani institutes and universities, 10,000 students will be engaged in the program by 2020.

·         New generation mines. In cooperation with major national mining companies, Cisco will implement a number of solutions to provide mobile secure two-way communication for the Internet of things, machine interaction and industrial applications in the mining industry;
